Welcome to the Kingpin section of this site!
So. I'm proud to announce you the birth of Bot Runner version
dedicated to SiN, that I decided to call Bot Damner.
The same thing happens with additional models: except for the
adult skin of Elexis, I was able to found only three or four
models.
Although Kingpin has a stunning grafical engine, it does not seem
to have broken ice among mod writers, maybe because of his
excessive and unuseful violence; however, even if it can't
compete with Quake2 or Half Life for number of bots, it has some
good ideas in, primarily the fantastic Bagman (=teamplay) mode.
So. I'm proud to announce you the birth of Bot Runner version
dedicated to Kingpin, that I decided to call Bot Killer.
Regardin add-on models, you can find some on EvilBunnies
(they're a must have!); please be careful, because some of them
does not have all frames, so they can cause problems.
Anyway, you can find as many skins as you want; start from Planetkingpin
or Synchroplay (where you can find a huge
skinpack that should satisfy everyone...).
Being Bot Killer fully
based on the code of Bot Runner, I don't think another manual is
necessary.
So below you can find what's new respect the Bot Runner manual (that's included into killerXXe.zip).
Mainly different are, of course, supported bots , that are:
The Kraze: DM, Team (bagman) and last man standing (everytime you die you loose a point)
KP Bot Base: DM only (this bot is a release for mod authors, to add artificial intelligence to their products)
Cold Night Bot: DM and team DM
Hitmen: DM and team DM
Obviously, if you know any other, please email me!
At the moment, there's no
bot capable to play CTF (in effects, there's no CTF mode at
all...).
Instruction on how to start Bot Killer are the same.
Add-on maps should be installed into main/maps, models into
main/players.
Mainly different
from other 3d shooter, skins are located in another folder: in
facts, you can find into main/models/actors, in the folders
bitch, runt and thug; every model as in his directory a
skinfolder.txt file that links to the folders containing head,
body and legs skins; Bot Killer bases its actions on this file.
Due to this complexity, a bit of time (10 seconds on my computer)
is needed before set death completes the scan; so, if the intial
window doesn't immediately appear, be patient: it's not stalled!
Obviously, every directory changed; here's the list:
In the chapter... |
the phrase... |
becomes... |
1-7 | crbot | kraze |
1-7 | /quake2/ | /Kingpin/ |
2-7 | baseq2/players | main/players |
2-7 | baseq2/maps | main/maps |
4-7 | /runner | /killer |
6 | "Supermalefemalecyborg" | "??????" |
To exclude some skins, simply create into the
/killer directory a file called exclude.lst, then add skin
"names" (normally, they're composed by 3 types, i.e.
401) you don't want to see, separating them with spaces or
carriage returns.
Obviously chapter 7 is completely unuseful; recommended dmflags
are:
DM: 532 for every bot
team DM: don't forget to set into tmflg.cfg the proper cashlimit value for kraze's Bagman mode
News of version 1.5
support for Hitmen
version 1.4
brand new system to choose also bot names; see here for more info
full support for bw-admin anti-cheat .dll (thanks to Brian J. Stewart).
version 1.3
skin cycling fixed (thanks to MasterG)
some fix about kpBotbase
allows user to reconnect also kpBotbase (same way as cold night)
supports krazeLN (a front-end that supports another frontend? Sure, so you can have the best from both!)
version 1.2
skin cycling (i got the Synchroplay full pack and wanted to see them all...)
automatically removes gamex86.dll if present into kingpin main folder
now the program searches skins only once, not every time is launched (so it's REALLY faster)
allows user to reconnect Cold Night Bot simply pressing a key, when level changes
version 1.1
supports Cold Night Bot 1.01 (teamplay added)
version 1.0
allows to auto-update also team dm maplist
capability to exclude skins
supports Kingpin Bot Base and Cold Night Bot (DM only)
version 0.9
same features as Bot Runner
supports Kraze bot, in DM, team DM (bagman) and last man standing mode
No next version is planned at this moment.
I prefer to leave this section here, so you don't need to read the whole manual to simply play.
you have to do this only once, execpt if you install (or remove) new maps or skin/models (in this case run set deah.vbs again)
You can answer to the first question with a number (and you'll
play deathmatch), or with more than one number separated by
commas(and you'll play team DM), or with a name of a previously
saved configuration.
Last question regards play mode: normal dm or last man standing.
Notice: it's probable that, after launching set death, you should
wait many seconds before the window appears (see before).
I remember you that you must relaunch it every time you install
new maps and/or skins.
If you like the krazeLN launcher, double click on krazeLN.vbs
instead of running death.vbs; it will randomize map and bots for
you, then open /kraze folder from where you can launch krazeLN
(sorry, direct running doesn't seem to work).
From version 1.4, I've implemented a
method to manage bot names; into /killer/botnames.cfg you can
find every available name, with this syntax:
modelname(name1,name2,etc).
To add some names, you've only to search the model you want
(female_chick, male_runt or male_thug) or add it, if it not
exists; after ( place all the names, spacing them with commas;
you can use every character except for quotes ("); you must
close the parenthesys at the end, but the last comma is not
needed.
Every time Bot Killer assigns a model, it chooses a casual name
from the ones available in the file; if the file doesn't exists,
or there's no available name, model's name will be used (as in
old versions).
If you want, you can add generic settings using ### as a model
name; these settings will be used with every model not explicitly
defined in the file.
Same way, if you want to personalize a file created with the new method,
you can use this new syntax: (bot name)modelname/skin,(bot
name2)modelname2/skin2;.
In other words, you've only to put bot names into parenthesys;
old config files are still supported.
I pray you to remember that modelname
stands for folder name (male_runt and not runt).
For those who don't like to edit files manually, i've
added a little utility to automatically create the file; start
botnames.vbs (into /killer folder) and it will add (if the file
exists, it won't be overwritten) every model not already present.
It can also import names from existing Kraze and Cnbot config
files (you can find them in kraze/bots/*.cfg and
cnbot/botdef/*.def).
Copy them into /killer folder and they will be automatically
recognized by botnames.vbs.
Et voilą. Here's everything you need to start a good
massacre.
But, first, please spend some second to vote for this site:
To use my front-end, you need only the file killerXXe.zip (into
it you'll find also the manual in HTML format).
Obviously (there's no mod capable to use bots) there is no cfgpak
file for Bot Killer at the moment.
I remind you that you need at least Kingpin 1.21 and Windows 98.
If you have only Windows 95, you must download also the WSH,
either from the link in this page, or directly from Microsoft's site.
Otherwhise, you can install Internet Explorer 5.0, that includes
it.
Moreover, you can download the bot manager you prefer, if it's
supported. You can find the latest version on Bot Epidemic and on Maxtron.
Obviously, for every bot/mod, more the symbols, higher the score
(in author's opinions).
